Women in STEM and Motherhood: Are you at risk of hitting the maternal wall?
Join us on May 20 for a candid conversation with Dr. Isabel Torres on women in STEM and motherhood. Gotara Founder and CEO D Sangeeta and Torres will discuss the challenges STEM moms face and what can be done to address the systemic barriers that prevent them from achieving their career goals. Torres is co-founder and CEO of Mothers in Science, an international non-profit organization that aims to increase the retention of women in STEM careers by advocating for workplace equity and inclusion of parents and caregivers. Torres will share some of the results from her group’s recently conducted international survey on “Parenthood and career progression in STEMM.” Torres has a PhD in genetics from the University of Cambridge, UK, and a postdoc at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology. Isabel has since moved away from the bench and established a scientific editing and consultancy business. More recently, she founded Pretty Smart Science, a platform that combines science and art to promote scientific literacy and increase the visibility of women in science. Isabel is passionate about science communication and about promoting women in STEM and advocating for gender equality. Women in STEM and motherhood is a subject Torres is passionate about as she’s the mom to four curious and very funny kids. **PLEASE NOTE: Instead of 1 pm (PST), our usual time, this webinar will be at 7:30 AM (PST) so that our members in Europe and Asia—plus our guest Isabelle who is based in France—can join us more easily.
